The summer before the Haitian earthquake, two of our daughters went on a 8 week mission trip for Haiti, where they began the construction of an orphanage. After returning home, Haiti was devastated. They were heartbroken. Stillwater Balloon partnered with Hope in the Light Ministry as well as Minnesota restaurants and hotels to raise (with a $10,000 matching donation) $50,000 in just over fifty days. This was the funding needed to finish the orphanage, to provide a home and hope for children without.
Thank you to all who donated through "Dine and Fly for Haiti." We are leaving this page up and will be updating photos as they are available. We remain heavily involved in this ministry (indeed, Steve is on the board of directors), and we would love to tell you all the ways you can help!

Steve, one Jacobs daughter, one Jacobs son, and a whole crew from the church went down to put the finishing touches on the orphanage... it is beautiful, but FULL!
The orphanage was complete but the wrong children showed up. They walked for miles, dressed in their best clothing, kicking "soccer balls" made from garbage, and they came here, to the orphanage.
For the past few years, Hope in the Light had offered a small school in a nearby town. After the devistating earthquake, this building was deemed unsafe. School was canceled nationwide for an extended period, and, as it resumed, 280 children sought an education from this little Christian school. With a clear calling to offer care to the fatherless, Hope in the Light found themselves with two very pressing needs and one building. Vowing not to turn a single child away, they pressed all 280 children into the 33"x38" orphanage and quickly set forth to balance the needs of their current students with the needs of those children who would (in the near future) seek to call this orphanage home.

Another trip is underway and another Jacobs daughter and son are headed to Haiti with me. It has been such an incredible blessing to see this country through the eyes of my daughters (who started this adventure) and to share it with thier brothers. We are hoping to start and finish two 16'x90' open air school buildings creating not only a home for the fatherless but a haven for children so hungry for literacy and love that they would joyfully walk miles on small mountain trails to hear about mathematics and the hope found in Christ.
So, don't just come fly with us, join us on a real adventure... change the world, one tiny face at a time!
